What's New With Us

1/25/09

Yet another belated Happy Holidays and New Year!  Due to lots of holiday travel and adventures, we are just now getting our cards and letters out.  I guess that says something about how hectic the past year has been!

Charlie (12) started middle school as a sixth grader this year.  He continues to do very well in his classes and has also joined the Student Council.  Outside the classroom, Charlie’s interests now include sports and girls, though not always in that order.  Earlier in the year he got a cell phone and can now be seen sending and receiving text messages to various female students day and night.  On the playing field, Charlie’s Marple Junior Tigers football team had a “rebuilding” year and finished the season without having to participate in those “tedious playoffs”.  He played
offensive guard this year and we are extremely proud of how Charlie’s character and sportsmanship grew as he had to adjust to a less successful team record.  Charlie continues to play organized basketball and baseball as well,
keeping our evenings and weekends as busy as ever.   One of the highlights of his year was attending Game 4 of the World Series with his dad and brothers.

Henry (10) is now a fourth grade upperclassman at his elementary school and continues to amaze us with his growth.  He played organized basketball, baseball and football this year, and enjoyed carrying the ball at running back a few times.  Henry is known as the player every coach loves to be around due to his team spirit, hard work and sense of humor.  One of the highlights of his year was our trip to Williamsport, PA to attend the Little League World Series with dad and his brothers.  Henry also continues to be the family mediator.  He is constantly helping to make sure that all disagreements are settled quickly and peacefully between his brothers, except when he is involved.  Then of course, he is always right!  He also tried horseback riding and is going to cotillion classes every month.  He’s become quite a good dancer, just like his father.

Patrick (8) is now a second grader and believes that he is in charge of his elementary school.  He is known and loved by all the students and staff.  He was so excited when he received a standing ovation when his pictured appeared in a slide show presentation for the school.  He is always comfortable no matter the situation and quickly makes friends with everyone he meets.  He even sits up front on his school bus to discuss sports with the driver.  Patrick played running back again this year and this was his first season in pads.  To be more like the big players he persuaded Beth to get him a Mohawk haircut during football season, much to dad’s chagrin.  He even asked if he could get his ear pierced.  To that, we all said NO!  Hair grows back but piercings are forever.

Beth’s stature in the local school district grew again this year, as she became Co-President of the elementary school PTO.  It seems that all her hard work over the past few years has paid off, as she now routinely delegates PTA projects to other kids’ moms!  As usual, she is loved and adored by everyone associated with the school.  Chris’ passion for surfing continued unabated this year, as he was again able wrangle surfing trips to Costa Rica, California and Hawaii.  When he’s not surfing, Chris continues to lead marketing at Choice Hotels International and made trips to the Dominican Republic and the Philippines on business this past year.

Best wishes to you and yours for a Happy Holiday Season and a Healthy & Prosperous 2009!
