Updated 8/30/98 If this is your first visit to our site, then Welcome to Our Place in cyberspace. Since we're not able to visit with our out-of-town friends and family as often as we'd like to, we're hoping that this Website will help us stay in touch and up to date with everyone throughout the year. We update Our Place each month or so with Charlie's latest photos and other newsworthy family exploits. We hope you'll visit us often. Well, our lives have been eventful since our last update. It all started on Friday, July 24th. Beth and Chris were planning to take a long weekend trip to Savannah, while her parents stayed in Dunwoody with Charlie. Chris had been away on business that week in Connecticut and was looking forward to the weekend away with Beth. However, while Chris' flight was enroute to Atlanta, Beth started to bleed from her uterus. Beth's parents had arrived the day before, so her mother took Beth to the hospital while Grampa Larry stayed home with Charlie. Meanwhile, Chris got the news upon landing at the airport and headed straight for the hospital. When Chris arrived at the hospital room to find Beth and her mother sobbing, his heart stopped fearing the worst had occured. But everything was okay. The drama was that when Beth arrived the hospital, they couldn't find the baby's heartbeat for ten minutes! So Beth and her mom were totally freaked out and still pretty upset when Chris arrived. But the baby was fine and the bleeding stopped pretty quickly. After a full day of tests, the doctors determined that the placenta was a little too close to the bottom of the uterus and had begun to bleed. They kept her for the rest of the weekend for observation. So our weekend away was at Northside Hospital. The rest of Beth's stay at the hospital was uneventful. She was discharged and given strict instructions to stay off her feet for at least the NEXT FOUR WEEKS, AND POSSIBLY THE REST OF THE PREGNANCY! We would definitely be needing full-time help to take care of Charlie while Beth was out of commission. Beth's mom stayed for another 10 days, but then had to return to North Carolina. So we hired a full-time baby sitter through a local agency to work 7 am-7 pm, Monday through Friday. Well, Charlie loved having a full-time playmate, but Beth was bored out of her mind having to stay in bed. Thankfully, after four weeks, Beth's condition had improved enough that she was taken off bedrest. She's been taking it easy since then and will be checked again in another few weeks. Well, fortunately that's all the news for this month. Be sure to check out all the new photos in Charlie's Photo Album while you're here.
