| Beth and I were fortunate enough to have the opportunity to visit Ireland for a few days in July 2002. During our trip we spent two days visiting Wexford Town, the place where my Malone ancestors immigrated from when they came to America in 1868. Wexford is a beautiful and quaint fishing town on the Southeast coast of Ireland and we regret that we were only able to spend two days there. During my visit, I was able to locate another earlier generation of our Malone ancestors, tracing them back now to about 1740 in Wexford. We were also able to locate some places in Wexford that our ancestors lived. First is #36 Abbey Street where Walter D. Malone (father of Nicholas who came to America) was listed as living in 1853, according to the Griffith's Valuation property census. It is now part of the Abbey Street Bed & Breakfast (see photo). In addition, we visited the Church of the Immaculate Conception where Nicholas Malone and Joanna Cahill were married in September 1868 before their voyage to Brooklyn. It has an amazing tall steeple that still dominates the town's skyline and is very beautiful inside as well. We hope to visit again someday when we have more time to spend.
